Fast Weight Loss - How Fast Can You Go?
Fast weight loss - Ah Yes, it's certainly one of the most common goals of the average dieter. It's not surprising though - who in the right mind would want to stay on a diet any longer than is absolutely necessary? The thing with fast weight loss though, is it’s all about perspective. Yes, you can lose weight fast, and there are diets out there that promise to help you lose 10lbs at the drop of a hat - but these diets have one major downfall.They can come with a heavy price to pay for your health and well being! It is generally accepted within the industry that weight loss should not exceed 1-2lb per week. The upper end of that scale is perfectly achievable providing a sensible diet and exercise program is followed.
A Little Bit of Math
To explain in more detail about effective fat loss we need to do a little math.One pound of fat contains 3500 calories. In order to lose 1lb of fat in a week, a deficit of 3500 calories needs to be created over the duration of the week. There are 7 days in a week, so by dividing 3500 by 7 days gives 500 calories per day. The number of calories to maintain current body weight must be calculated next. This can be quite difficult and is where having an experienced professional such as myself alongside can really benefit and assist in fast weight loss. It’s important to remember that as individuals we each have very different lives and physical make up - so everyone's calories requirements are different. There is no standard that can be applied! Once the number of calories to maintain bodyweight has been calculated it is a simple exercise of subtracting 500 calories from each day’s allowance. This figure is the number of calories that can be eaten each day in order to promote 1lb of fat loss weekly. In order to lose 2lb of weight weekly, a 1000 calorie deficit would need to be achieved DAILY (which can be done through careful food planning and exercise combined.) In a nutshell - That is It!
Now 1-2 pounds of fat loss may not seem like it is very much.
But to put things into perspective, think about a bag of sugar and how heavy that feels in your hand.
By losing the equivalent of 1- 2 bags of sugar per week just imagine how much better you will look and lighter you will feel!
Fast weight loss which exceeds 1-2lbs per week IS NOT recommended as clients risk muscle loss, fatigue, reduced metabolic rate, sleeping problems, mood swings and depression to name but a few undesirable health issues.
